Assistant Professor Dr Teo Chiah Shean

Asst Prof Dr Teo is an eminent medical professional with an impressive background in the field of integrative medicine. His qualifications include a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from Crimea State Medical University and a Master of Integrative Medicine from Beijing. Dr Teo's expertise and experience have led him to his current role as the head of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine unit at the National Cancer Society of Malaysia.

Dr Teo specialises in various aspects of holistic integrative management in cancer care. He also focuses on the application of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in treating internal medicine conditions. Additionally, he provides personalised TCM therapy for suboptimal health status and mind-body balance. Dr Teo also offers guidance on TCM health preservation for enhanced well-being and longevity.

Dr Teo's professional journey encompasses various key positions and academic roles. In 2019, he assumed his role as the head of the Traditional and Complementary Medicine unit at the National Cancer Institute of Malaysia, where he leads efforts to integrate traditional and complementary medicine into cancer care. He is also an adjunct lecturer at the Management and Science University (MSU) in Malaysia and a visiting professor at Dalian Medical University.

Dr Teo's significant contributions to the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine are underscored by several accolades and recognitions, including:

·       Silk Road Friendship Award in 2022 by the China International Culture Exchange Centre (CICEC)

·       Excellent Service Award from the National Cancer Institute of Malaysia in 2021

·       Person of Excellence Award in 2021 from the Magazine Committee of Malaysian Chinese National Type-High Performance Primary School

 

Dr Teo's dedication to advancing medical knowledge is evident through his contributions to academic journals, conference proceedings, and the development of practice guidelines. Notable publications include a systematic review of the effectiveness and safety of Chinese patent medicines in treating cancer-related anaemia and research on the challenges and strategies for implementing Chinese medicine during COVID-19 in Malaysia. He has also actively participated in creating practice guidelines related to cancer treatment and herbal therapy.
