Mental health

Tan Sri Noor Hisham

From the desk of Tan Sri Dr.Noor Hisham:

Mental health has never been more important in our ever-changing and increasingly competitive world. WHO's definition of Health is "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity".

According to the WHO, burnout, depression, and anxiety cost the global economy at least US$ 1 trillion dollars each year. And these conditions contribute to a downward spiral that impacts other areas of life like interpersonal relationships and skills.

Happiness, contentment, and fulfillment have never been more crucial in our ever-competitive world. And by working with schools, organisations, and communities, it is important to go to the ground to identify stress factors early and ensure that people aren’t suffering in silence.

Furthermore working together with thought leaders around the world could break barriers and stigma of mental illness in the communities. It serves as the platform that uncovers the multifaceted dimensions of well-being, mental resilience, and emotional intelligence.

This afternoon I launched the UCSI Wellbeing Research Centre and the PhD in Psychology programme. Together, let us embark on this journey to explore, understand, and promote well-being for everyone.
