PORT DICKSON 28th Nov 2023 – UCSI HOSPITAL (ADiC), Adopt A Dialysis Chair.

This initiative was Launched by our Minister Of Health Dr. Zaliha Mustafa on 11th June 2023, and are getting encouraging responds and sponsorships from the private sectors and also at the Malaysian Government Ministries. Each chair is unique, as each patient requires specific needs.

The ADiC project is an initiative undertaken by UCSI Hospital Springhill PD to assist underprivileged dialysis patients especially in the Springhill, Lukut PD and general areas, in Negeri Sembilan. Although the ADiC project is a pilot project, UCSI Hospital Springhill PD has thus far successfully secured commitments from 10 sponsors to sponsor 13 patients as a start-up project.

An Overview; Over 850 million individuals worldwide have chronic kidney disease. In Malaysia alone, an estimated 4.6 million Malaysians with a ratio of 1 in 7 are now chronic kidney patients. Kidney diseases afflict the affluent and the poor alike, and the leading cause of kidney failure is diabetes and hypertension. The only cure treatment option for kidney failure is a kidney transplant which is risky and costly. In order to make the treatment readily available to all segments of the society, UCSI Hospital Springhill PD provides quality treatment at cost as a community giveback and are constantly looking for partners to sponsor this initiative.

Hemodialysis is a treatment for severe kidney failure (also called renal failure or end-stage kidney disease). When the kidneys are no longer working effectively, waste products and fluid build-up in the blood. Dialysis takes over a portion of the function of the failing kidneys to remove the fluid and waste. Hemodialysis is typically needed when approximately 90 percent or more of kidney function is lost. Early in the course of kidney disease, other treatments are used to help preserve kidney function and delay the need for replacement therapy. Once dialysis becomes necessary, patient must consider the advantages and disadvantages of the two types of dialysis:

  • Hemodialysis (in center or at home)
  • Peritoneal dialysis.

The choice between Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are influenced by a number of issues, such as age, availability, convenience, underlying medical problems, and affordability. This choice is best made by discussing the risks and benefits of each type of dialysis with a health care provider.
