Social Support and Mental Health

PORT DICKSON 12th Dec 2023 – SOCIAL SUPPORT AND MENTAL HEALTH

What is Mental Health?

Good mental health is a sense of wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem. It enables us to fully enjoy and appreciate other people, day-to-day life and our environment.

While the absence of good mental health implies mental illness, or mental disorder. Mental health may affect a person's ability to interact successfully with their family, friends, work-mates and the community. It can cause significant distress and disability, and can lead to isolation and discrimination against those affected.

Many factors contribute to a much-needed recovery, including having a good social support system of people that you like, respect and trust. They can be family members, friends, teachers, faith leaders, neighbours or peers — what’s important is that you have people you feel comfortable talking to about what you’re experiencing and support you may need.

Do you know that 1 out of 3 Malaysians is suffering from mental health disorders?
