Endoscopy Treatment
Endoscopic screening and treatment, encompassing both Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (OGDS) and Colonoscopy, are essential procedures in gastroenterology aimed at diagnosing and managing various gastrointestinal conditions. During an OGDS, a flexible tube with a camera is inserted through the mouth to examine the oesophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine. Colonoscopy involves the insertion of a similar tube through the rectum to visualise the entire colon. These procedures allow for the detection of abnormalities such as polyps, inflammation, or cancerous lesions.
Additionally, endoscopic treatments can be performed during these procedures. This may include polyp removal, tissue sampling (biopsy), or the treatment of bleeding ulcers. Endoscopic procedures offer several advantages, including minimal discomfort, short recovery times, and the ability to directly visualise and treat gastrointestinal issues. They play a crucial role in early detection and intervention, ultimately contributing to better patient outcomes and improved gastrointestinal health.
