Recognising and Treating Stroke

A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is disrupted, causing damage to brain cells. Recognising stroke symptoms quickly is essential for effective treatment. The FAST acronym is a crucial tool for identifying early stroke signs:

Face drooping: One side of the face may droop or feel numb. Ask the person to smile and their smile may appear uneven.

Arm weakness: One arm may become weak or numb. Asking the person to raise both arms may show that one arm may drift downward.

Speech difficulty: Speech may become slurred or difficult to understand. To check, ask the person to repeat a simple sentence; they may struggle or make mistakes.

Time to call emergency services: If you observe any of these symptoms, it's critical to call emergency services immediately.

Our centre provides comprehensive stroke care, starting with rapid diagnosis using advanced imaging techniques like CT scans and MRIs. Following this, the centre will recommend treatment.

Treatment options may include medications to dissolve blood clots, surgical procedures and targeted rehabilitation therapies. Stroke rehabilitation focuses on helping patients regain lost functions through physical, occupational and speech therapies. Preventive measures, such as lifestyle adjustments and managing risk factors, are also crucial for reducing the risk of future strokes.

Early intervention is key to minimising brain damage and improving recovery prospects.
